Yesterday was the 11th September 2008 or 9 / 11. Seven years after the horrific terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washinton DC I still see tears und Trauer in den Augen der Menschen hier, vor allem in denen meiner Gastmutter. Saemtliche Fahnen und Flaggen waren auf Halbmast, Gedenkminuten im ganzen Land und viele Errinnerungen die hochkommen, wenn man mit den Leuten darueber spricht. "Das schrecklichste ist, dass es so ein schoener Tag war...", hoere ich meine Gastmutter immer noch sagen.
Sicher war der 11. September ein schrecklicher Tag fuer die ganze Welt ganz besonders aber fuer die Amerikaner. Es geht einem sehr nahe, wenn man im Geschichtsunterricht ausfuerlich ueber das Szenario spricht und bewegende Dokumentationsfilme dazu sieht.
Nie zu vor ist mir so wahrhaft bewusst geworden (und es ist immerhin sieben Jahre her), was an jenem Dienstag um 8:46 Uhr Ortszeit in New York and Washingtion happened.
daru decisive factor is probably the fact that the third entfuerte aircraft target on the White House (Flight 93) directly over my house here in North Canton was flying before it crashed in Pannsylvania. The scheduled destination of the machine was the same airport where I landed.
Here in the U.S. is 9 / 11 is still not a long story but pure reality ...

The terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, a series of suicide attacks on civilian and military emblematic buildings in the United States. They were 19 members of the Islamist terrorist group al-Qaidaausgeführt. The abbreviations used in the United States "9 / 11" (nine-eleven) for the "September 11 attacks" is reminiscent of the emergency number in the U.S. with the notation 911 (nine-one-one). Often the attacks are too short, "the 11 September "called.
