One nation under God - One nation under God. That is a key part of the American oath that we speak together at the school every Monday morning, while we, hand on heart, turn to the American flag. But in the U.S. Constitution is written clearly that religion and state are strictly separated. In the classrooms of crosses and other religious features strictly prohibited and may not be spoken prayers before class. How is it then that religion is still the largest company in the unlimited feature in the land of opportunity?
The first look is deceptive. The U.S. is, like most of the Western world, strongly influenced by Christianity. The blunt rejection of religion in state institutions leads solely and only to avoid the many different religions, denominations, faith groups and sects back to determine the preference of a religious belief. Unlike in Germany at where most people either the Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church or Islam members, in the U.S. can establish theoretically each his own new religion. I get from all these exotic sects in my Gegend jedoch nicht so viel mit. Meine Gastfamilie ist genauso wie meine Familie in Deutschland römisch-katholisch. Messe oder Gottesdienst am Sonntagmorgen gehören für neuzig Prozent der Amerikaner zum Lebensalltag. Während die Anzahl der Kirchgänger in Deutschland von Jahr zu Jahr leider immer weiter zurückgeht, erleben die Gotteshäuser hier einen regelrechten Ansturm. Auch wenn zum Beispiel die Katholische Kirche hier, sich nicht sehr viel von der deutschen unterscheidet, so sind doch die Eintrittszahlen in Amerika den Austrittszahlen in der Bundesrepublik gleichzusetzen.
Von Anfang an war ich durch meinen Gastbruder Christopher voll mit die katholischen Jugend integriert. Nach Weihnachten habe ich mich dann dazu entschlossen während the fairs collaborate musically.
